The Olympics
Somehow I can't seem to believe that such people actually exist in the world. Can anyone actually shoot an arrow/bullet into a 3cm circle 30 times in a row? Run 10 kilometres in half an hour? Throw a lead ball fifty metres? Swim 50 metres in ten seconds? Run 42km and still live? It doesn't seem real at all. Looking at the faces of the people who do such things, those stoned, nonchalant, even smiling expressions, it's hard to imagine that those people are human at all. Maybe they aren't Ironically, they are supposed to represent the 'finest' that humanity has to offer, the epitome of the 'human spirit'. It's hard to see how one can compare them to normal human beings, caught up in the vicious cycle of wake-eat-work-sleep, never to rise beyond the mindless minutae of what we call 'living'. How are these people with bodies of gods and goddesses supposed to remotely resemble us in anyway. Sure, they speak English/French/Japanese/Chinese/Afrikaans, but that's about as far as the similarity goes. But then why are they so celebrated? Maybe it's because of the very fact that they aren't human all, that we all emulate them and aspire to stand among them, forsaking the swelling masses of monotony for a chance at divinity. They are not the best that we have to offer, but the best we might eventually be. Jiawei, you have done well. You tried your best, and nobody on this island, nobody in the world will fault you for that. 'You have tried your best' That is the greatest praise that can be given to a human, and we bestow it upon you. Good Job. Somebody said that at 11:11 PM - x - - x -
