I have recently discovered one of the greatest bands on earth:
U2, of course I have developed a taste for 'soft' rock music... Emotion, like all other psychological and physiological entities, is a mere product of evolution. A product of mere necessity, it imparts benefits in the form of increased survivability to organisms sufficiently developed to require it. These organisms are no longer content with mere existence, and require an additional impetus to perpetuate and ensure the survival of species. Hence, emotion developed from chemical signalling systems to incorporate an additional dimension to the mentality of the species. Thus was consciousness and Mind born. Yes, our consciousness and self-awareness is a product of our emotions, the ability to put a 'personal' spin on observations, to associate sensory details with abstract concepts. Pain -> anger, fear. Pleasure -> lust, love. Everything in between follows from there. Does this diminish its status? Of course not. It should be a source of great pride and wonder, that you are able to feel emotions. Some do not (or think/want to think they do not) and are proud of it. Stupid fools. Emotion adds dimension and depth to life, gives an impetus to continue. Life would be flat and boring without emotion (think utopia), there would be no reason to continue living. Emotion is not merely an additional emotion; it is tantamount to a sixth dimension A person without emotion, without the capability to feel and empathise is an intelligent monkey. A person with emotion, one who can experience life in six dimensions is a human being. Somebody said that at 1:06 AM - x - - x -
