My ideal utopian world: (got this idea after reading some blogs)

There is a global totalitarian State, governed by a Central Computer. It is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent (omnivorous?) (think the Monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey), yet the people know nothing about it. People live in a vast community of absolute equals, under the inhuman Central Computer. They have absolute freedom of action, thought and speech - or so they believe. The Central Computer silently manages affairs such that optimum harmony is achieved. Communications technology regresses 1000 years, such that telephones, handphones and computers do not exist. No such crap like msn or sms exist, the stupid devices which promote miscommunication. Only face-to-face contact. (How many times have I cursed sms and msn...)

The people work unknowingly towards the accomplishment of whatever the Central Computer wishes. Evils like ego, hatred, fear have been harnessed for good use, being concentrated against certain illusionary enemies created by the Central Computer. The people are happy, yet have this little gnawing uncertainty within them that drives them forward towards progress.

The people of course have the option to not join this utopian community, entering a reeducation and reprogramming camp of course, the madmen.

(This sounds like hell, but that's what utopia is)
