There is the inevitable tendency to slide downwards into barbarism.
Do not argue with the Second law of Thermodynamics; entropy will increase to a maximum given sufficient time. Occasionally, very occasionally, there are brief spurts of a miraculous climb towards enlightenment. Too few, too weak, too random. Heisenburg is cruelly thwarted by statistical reality. No sooner do we start the agonising upwards climb do we slide down again on a surface of slick oil. Of our own creation. Now we live like its the last night on Earth. A self-fulfilling prophecy, cast by nations bound in collective blindness and apathy. All while the clocks tick slowly towards midnight. A new day beckons, fresh and free from the scourge of Man.
